ABOUT THE OFFICE

This office is led by MP Anna Tarhata Basman. Under her leadership, it seeks to help advance the welfare of the marginalized through legislation. The office seeks to work on three primary thrusts: responsive and accessible Special Education in the Bangsamoro, thriving Islamic Finance in the regional economy, and transparency in Marawi Rehabilitation, on top of her active work in Parliament.

The Office also works with the various Parliament Committees MP Anna leads or belongs to. MP Anna chaired both the Sub-Committee on Consolidation of Marawi Resolution under the Committee on Rules, and the ad-hoc Committee on Revenue Code before their dissolution. She is Vice-Chair of the Special Committee on Marawi and concurrently the Chair for its Sub-Committee on Marawi Rehabilitation. She is also a member of the BTA Committee on Rules; Committee on Finance, Budget, and Management; Committee on Social Services, Committee on Trade, Investment, and Tourism; and Committee on Human Settlements and Development.

MP ANNA TARHATA BASMAN

Atty. Anna Tarhata S. Basman was appointed Member of Parliament as government nominee on February 25, 2019. Before taking office in 2019, she had already served the Bangsamoro in various capacities: as legal chief of the Government Negotiating Panel for talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) at the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process, as Deputy Executive Director of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, and as legal consultant of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission.

MP Anna finished both her BA in Public Administration and Juris Doctor at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. She later pursued her MSc in Islamic Finance and Management at the Durham University in the United Kingdom under the prestigious Chevening Scholarship Program.
